Important Info & FAQs
Tattoo Etiquette
-
Show Up Clean (bathed) and Prepared
-
Eat a solid meal: Eat a filling meal 1 to 2 hours before your session to keep your blood sugar up. This prevents dizziness and helps you handle the pain.
-
Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water the day before and the day of your appointment. Hydrated skin takes ink much better.
-
Dress comfortably: Wear loose clothing that gives easy, comfortable access to the area being tattooed without forcing you to constantly adjust.
-
Don't Drink Alcohol or Take Blood Thinners
-
Respect the Artist's Time and Creativity
-
Be on time: If you're running late, please call me. I allow a buffer time of 20 minutes. Atlanta traffic can be extremely unpredictable even with GPS.
-
Trust my expertise: You took the time to consult and book with me. Please trust that if I suggest that a design is too small for the amount of detail you want, or that it won't age well in a certain spot, I am speaking from experience.
-
Limit your guests: Sticking to one or two supportive friends is usually best.
FAQs
Where does it hurt the most?
-
Pain varies by person, but generally, areas with thin skin, tight bone coverage, or a high concentration of nerve endings hurt the most.
-
High Pain: Ribs, stomach, armpits, knees, elbows, feet, and the spine.
-
Low-to-Moderate Pain: Outer biceps, forearms, calves, and outer thighs.
Can I use numbing cream?
-
Always ask your artist first. Some numbing creams can alter the texture of the skin, making it harder for the ink to settle properly, or cause the skin to swell prematurely. If they approve it, they will tell you exactly which brand to use and when to apply it.
What should I do if I feel faint or dizzy?
-
Speak up immediately. Artists are completely used to this and will instantly stop, give you a moment to breathe, and offer you water or a sugary snack to help bring your blood sugar back up.
What if I need to cancel/reschedule?
-
Please give at least 24 hrs. notice if you need to cancel/reschedule. No call/no show will have to book a new appointment and leave a new deposit. All deposits are non refundable.
Tattoo Aftercare
-
Listen to your artist's bandage timeline: Keep your initial wrap or medical adhesive bandage (like Saniderm) on for exactly as long as your artist recommends. When removing adhesive film, do it gently under warm, running water.
-
Wash gently with clean hands: Always wash your hands before touching your tattoo. Clean the tattoo using your bare hands, warm water, and a mild, fragrance-free liquid antibacterial soap. Never use a washcloth or loofah, which can harbor bacteria and scratch the skin.
-
Pat dry, never rub: Let the tattoo air dry or gently pat it with a clean, disposable paper towel. Avoid regular bath towels, as they can lint or carry bacteria.
-
Apply moisturizer sparingly: Once dry, apply a very thin layer of fragrance-free lotion or a specialized tattoo ointment. Your skin needs to breathe to heal—if the tattoo looks shiny or wet, you used too much. Blot away any excess.
-
Wash 2 to 3 times a day: Repeat the wash-and-moisturize routine a few times daily for the first few weeks, especially if you've been sweating or outdoors.
-
Do not pick, scratch, or peel: As it heals, the tattoo will scab and flake like a sunburn, and it will get itchy. Picking or peeling the skin can pull the ink straight out of the dermis, leaving permanent light spots. If it itches, gently tap it or apply a little lotion.
-
Avoid submerging in water: Avoid baths, hot tubs, lakes, and swimming pools for at least 2 to 3 weeks. Short, normal showers are completely fine, but soaking a fresh tattoo can introduce bacteria and dissolve forming scabs.
Note: Avoid direct sunlight on the tattooed area. Scabbing should form within one week. Be sure not to scratch or pick at your new tattoo.
